There is no single repainting interval that fits every Houston stucco home. The existing coating, preparation, exposure, and maintenance history all affect the decision. An inspection of the finish is more useful than assuming it needs replacement after a set number of years.
Signs worth reviewing
Look for peeling, loss of adhesion, persistent discoloration, and noticeably uneven weathering. Fading may be primarily an appearance concern; recurring dampness or a failed patch needs a different discussion. Record where the change occurs instead of assuming the whole house is in the same condition.
Check what was applied previously
Find the last painting invoice, product name, color, and preparation notes if possible. Ask whether the proposed coating is compatible with the existing finish. A generic “exterior paint” description gives little guidance for future maintenance.
Resolve repairs before setting the paint date
Complete the agreed repair scope and follow the product-specific readiness requirements. Drying and recoating depend on conditions as well as time. Does the whole house need painting at once?
Not necessarily. Ask whether the conditions are limited to one elevation and what a staged approach would look like. Different exposures and earlier repairs may create different priorities. Color matching and the location of paint boundaries can still make a wider scope preferable for appearance.
What if you do not know the coating age?
Do not invent a maintenance date. Start with the current condition and any records available from the previous owner or contractor. Have the proposed preparation and compatibility checks explained. Once the work is completed, keep the product information so the next decision is based on a documented history.
Plan the next maintenance review
Save finish information and photographs after painting. Ask what coating changes should trigger a call and whether different elevations need different attention. That creates a useful maintenance record without promising a fixed service life.
